Thanks to all the folks who came out to the 2014 Columbia Area Earth Day Festival! A lot of volunteers are needed to put something like this together and we really appreciate those of you who helped out! There was a lot of learning happening on ECO Avenue and many thanks go out to the organizations and businesses that help to make this festival all about sustainability! Now to start planning for next year!
Impending thunderstorms and possibility of severe weather tomorrow have led us to opt for the rain date of May 4th. We hope for better weather next weekend! Booth registration is re-opened for anyone who did not get in previously and still wants to be included. We will be looking for help to replace volunteers that were scheduled for this weekend who can not make our next date. Please call 573-875-0539 if you can help! Thank you!
Well, the time is upon us and we are excited to say that this looks to be one of the best Earth Day Festivals to date! Over 200 booths, 7 hours of great music and lots of good food will help to make this a great place to have a great time while we learn to live more sustainably. This is a free event and we hope to have lots of people join us to celebrate Mother Earth! Bring your friends, bring your family because there are lots of things to do for folks of all ages. We do ask you to leave your dog at home, however. We also ask for your support, if you are so inclined, and we will have donation boxes at the entrances to the fair. Funds raised will go toward sustainability programming throughout the year as well as future Earth Day Festivals. Thanks for your support!
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
Our weather team will be watching carefully on Saturday to determine if the weather will hold out for us on Sunday. If we have to postpone the festival until the rain date of May 4, then we will post that information here on the website as well as broadcast it on KOPN, 89.5. Ideally, the festival will happen this weekend, but the current forecast for Sunday includes thunderstorms. Our vendors and entertainers are all on schedules that make having the festival this weekend a top priority, so a small amount of rain will not dampen our spirits! Stay tuned here and on KOPN for the latest updates.
The Columbia Area Earth Day Festival is turning 25!!! We hope you will help us to make this an extra special celebration by joining in the festivities as a vendor, performer or visitor. This year, the Columbia Area Earth Day Festival will be held on Sunday, April 27th. We are currently taking booth registrations. If you are a business, organization, or artisan interested in getting a booth, be sure to get registered by the regular deadline of March 31st in order to avoid late fees.
There are many ways you can get involved in the festival:
VOLUNTEER: Volunteering for the Earth Day Festival is a good way to get involved with other groups and individuals who are dedicated to improving environmental awareness.
If you or a group that you are affiliated with has interest in doing so, please visit the “Contact Us” page.
PARTICIPATE IN ECO AVENUE: Eco Ave. is at the heart of Earth Day. It is the central block in the Street Fair where we congregate the booths that are involved in sustainability education.
If your organization, agency or business fits the Eco Ave. criteria and is interested in getting a booth, we may still be able to get you in. Please call 314-825-4444 and talk to coordinator, Laura Wacker, about space remaining.
VOLUNTEER TO PERFORM: All performers at the Festival volunteer their time and talents. Musicians, dancers, spoken word artists and more are all encouraged to apply to be considered for inclusion on the schedule. The application deadline is December 31, 2013. To download and application please CLICK HERE.
Note that we always have more performers interested than slots available, so please don’t be disappointed if you are not selected this year. This said, we really appreciate your interest and would love to consider your act for inclusion.
PARTICIPATE IN THE STREET FAIR: Booth registration for all booths except Eco Ave. begins on January 16, 2014. If you had a booth last year and your e-address hasn’t changed, we will be sending you registration information immediately prior to this date. If you haven’t participated in the past, or if your e-address has changed, we would be happy to add you to the list to receive this info. Just send us a note to firstname.lastname@example.org
Earth Day is on its way. Check below for 2013 Earth Day info. We invite your participation.
